Course Description

The Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) includes Industrial Valves within its scope and has been a mandatory requirement for pressure equipment manufactured for use in Europe since the end of May 2002. Similarly the ATEX (ATmospheres EXplosibles) Directive includes Industrial Valves, as non electrical equipment, within its scope and this directive became mandatory for equipment manufactured for use in Europe from July 2003.

Difficulties with the interpretation of the requirements of both directives were encountered by equipment manufacturers and a series of guidelines were published in an effort to provide consistent application of their ‘Essential Safety Requirements' across Europe. However, some uncertainty of PED and ATEX requirements still remain today and valve manufacturers - and users - often disagree on specific issues causing disputes and delays with equipment supply and acceptance. You can improve your understanding of these European Directives and avoid the often costly and time consuming problems associated with interpreting them by attending BVAA's new, one day course designed to remove the uncertainty surrounding these requirements. The course will be delivered by BVAA's Technical Consultant, Peter Churm.

Subjects addressed will include:

- Background and objectives
- Scope and definitions
- Excluded equipment
- Equipment categories
- Technical requirements
- Essential safety requirements
- Risk assessment
- Technical files
- Classification of equipment
- Conformity assessment
- Notified Bodies
