|The Smart Actuator Company (SACO) was formed in 2010 to research, design and manufacture electric part-turn and multi-turn actuators in the UK. The first product to come to market was the Smartact-1; a medium size electric actuator capable of being software configured to output 40, 60, 80 or 100Nm.
Standard features include Universal Power Supply, Anti-Condensation Heater, ISO5211 Mounting for F03, F04, F05, F07 AND F10 fixings, End Of Travel Relays, Ambient Temperature Range from -20 to +70 Celsius. Ingress Protection to IP67, over torque trip setting, choice of cable entries, and choice of square, or 45 degree angle for output drive orientation are also standard.
Optional extra cost features that are software configurable via Bluetooth are Fail Safe, Modulation, Speed Control, Torque Limiting, Multi-Turn, Fieldbus Communications (Profibus), Reverse Acting, and Off Grid + Time Facility for bespoke times solutions where only battery backup power is available.
SACO has always planned to introduce a larger unit to do torque output up to 400 Nm and a smaller unit to do up to 25 Nm. The Research and Development of these was the subject of a recent successful bid for European Union Grant Funding under the Horizon 20:20 Scheme for SME’s. SACO was one of only 155 applications from 2500 who applied across Europe and it means that up to 2.5 Million Euros of Grant Funding will now be available to the company to ensure that those products come to market.

Their introduction through major collaborative partners is likely to be in late 2016.
