Welcome to Link-up.
Firstly we would like to apologise to keen link-up fans for the delay in this week’s issue. This is due to BVAA’s attendance at the NOF Energy event in Newcastle on Friday – there is a review of the event below.
The next NOF Event is their supplier day which takes place on Wednesday – BVAA will be in attendance. Full details at www.nofenergy.co.uk
We are coming to the end of another training fortnight at BVAA, the courses were both well attended and well received by the attendees. If you missed out this time, remember we can come to you to deliver an in-house course or our courses will return to our Banbury HQ in October. For more information please contact Karen or Barbra on 01295 221270.

A plea from BVAA Accounts Dept…
At the end of our first quarter, BVAA becomes liable for a whopping VAT bill, much of it due on subs that have yet to be paid by members.
This year it is a particularly large sum, which has a significant impact on our cash flow.
We would therefore ask that members who have yet to settle up do so immediately. Statements are issued at the end of each month so original invoices and reminders sit un-actioned in an in-tray somewhere – please chivvy your accounts departments folks!

| NOF NETWORKING LUNCH WITH SHELL/FPAL – REVIEW |
|
 |
|
BVAA attended the latest NOF Energy Networking Lunch at the Hilton Newcastle/Gateshead. The keynote talk was delivered by Nick Davies of Shell with a supporting speech delivered by representatives from FPAL. The theme of the day was procurement processes; the audience of over 100 were treated to a rare insight of the procurement process from the side of a large operator.
Delegates commented on how enlightening it was to see the inner workings of their FPAL profiles as viewed by those awarding the contracts. Indeed should any FPAL accredited supplier wish to view their profile in the is fashion, FPAL deliver weekly supplier workshops in Aberdeen and can travel anywhere in the UK to deliver supplier workshops in house. For more information contact FPAL direct, details at the FPAL website.

| PED & ATEX TRAINING - 27TH JUNE |
|
 |
|
CAN YOU AFFORD NOT TO ATTEND? Don't take the risk, enroll today. The Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) includes Industrial Valves within its scope and has been a mandatory requirement for pressure equipment manufactured for use in Europe since the end of May 2002.
Similarly the ATEX (ATmospheres EXplosibles) Directive includes Industrial Valves, as non electrical equipment, within its scope and this directive became mandatory for equipment manufactured for use in Europe from July 2003.
Difficulties with the interpretation of the requirements of both directives were encountered by equipment manufacturers and a series of guidelines were published in an effort to provide consistent application of their ‘Essential Safety Requirements' across Europe. However, some uncertainty of PED and ATEX requirements still remain today and valve manufacturers - and users - often disagree on specific issues causing disputes and delays with equipment supply and acceptance.
You can improve your understanding of these European Directives and avoid the often costly and time consuming problems associated with interpreting them by attending BVAA's new, one day course designed to remove the uncertainty surrounding these requirements. The course will be delivered by BVAA's Technical Consultant and resident PED expert, Peter Churm.
