Course Brief

This 1-day course is designed as a comprehensive introduction to safety valves. This course explains why there is a need for safety valves and the associated regulatory requirements. How safety valves function and how to size and select the correct valve for given duties and specifications. The course employs lectures, demonstrations and problem solving sessions.

Course Objectives

  • Learn the main types and operating characteristics of safety valves
  • Be able to select and specify the correct safety valve for a given application 
  • Be aware of legislation covering pressure equipment and safety valves - Receive a full course manual as a permanent record

Who Should Attend

This training course is designed for engineers who use/select and for Technicians who install/service these safety devices. Managers with responsibility for plant and equipment would find an appreciation of the subject and the issues involved useful.

Course Presenter:

  • Peter Dix CEng MIMechE is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers. He has over thirty years’ experience in the valve industry, working as a Technical Director and General Manager for some of the industry’s biggest companies including IMI, Dresser, Tyco, Alco and Kent Introl. He is currently working as a consultant to the valve industry, and as BVAA’s principal technical consultant and leading lecturer.
  • Geoff Newman has over 45 years’ experience in the safety valve industry working mostly with a major safety valve manufacturer in sales roles, technical support, and engineering.

Course Materials: Delegates receive a free copy of the NEW Safety Valves Manual (published 2023).

  • Follow Hennef way to the Tesco roundabout
  • At that roundabout take the 3rd exit onto Southam Road  (A423)
  • Enter the roundabout – take the 3rd exit onto Noral Way

  • Park in visitor parking for BVAA

Classroom based training

Our one-day classroom-based courses will follow a similar format:

  • Offices open from 8.30am onwards
  • The course will start at 9.00am prompt
  • There will be a break for lunch, usually 12.30pm - 1.00pm
  • Each course will finish at 5.00pm at the latest

We provide a buffet lunch and would be grateful if you could inform us if you have any dietary restrictions or preferences on booking.

Full notes and course materials are supplied. Delegates will also receive a BVAA Manual specific to the course they attend.
